Softball Recap: Hozho Academy Finds Home Field Redemption Against Zuni

There's no place like home for Hozho Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They blew past the Zuni Thunderbirds 19-5 on Saturday. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.

Alysha Skeets was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Iris Albert was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Nahliyah Morgan was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Hozho Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .565. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Zuni only posted a batting average of .286.

Hozho Academy's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Zuni, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hozho Academy will host Laguna Acoma at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Zuni, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Tohatchi at 4:00 p.m.
