Softball Recap: Weiser Sets Scoring Season-High Against Mccall-Donnelly

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Weiser). They never let the McCall-Donnelly Vandals get on the board and left with a 24-0 win on Monday. Considering the Wolverines have won 14 matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Madi Janicek was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ellie Shirts, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five stolen bases, and eight RBI. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sophia Shirts, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

Weiser kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 13-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory made it two in a row for Weiser and bumps their season record up to 15-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for McCall-Donnelly, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-22.

Looking ahead, Weiser will head out to face off against Cole Valley Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wolverines 3.4, the Chargers 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. McCall-Donnelly does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
