Basketball Recap: East Chapel Hill Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when East Chapel Hill took on Chapel Hill on Friday. The East Chapel Hill Wildcats had to suffer through a 61-19 loss at the hands of the Chapel Hill Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 392nd, while the Tigers are ranked 57th).

Alana Burroughs was East Chapel Hill's leading scorer, having posted seven points. Evelyn Drecktrah held things down on the boards with seven rebounds.

Chapel Hill got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Scarlett Gilner out in front who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Gilner a new career-high in blocks (three). Another player making a difference was Dezariyah Clark, who posted six points along with seven assists and five steals.

East Chapel Hill has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season. As for Chapel Hill, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-3.

East Chapel Hill wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 32-15 win against Northern Durham on the 17th. As for Chapel Hill, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Hillside at 5:30 p.m. One thing working in Chapel Hill's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
