Softball Recap: Powdersville Drops Season-High Score on Carolina Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Powdersville). They never let the Carolina Academy Trojans get on the board and left with a 31-0 victory on Thursday. The Patriots have beaten the Trojans the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Trojans has come to flipping the script.

Lilee Lugo was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Lugo was even better at the plate, firing off three home runs, four RBI, and one stolen base while going 4-for-5. Those three home runs gave her a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Kylie Powell looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Bree Woods was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylie Evatt, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Powdersville hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in four consecutive matchups.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-5. As for Carolina Academy, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Coming up, Powdersville will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Pendleton at 6:00 p.m. Carolina Academy will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on St. Joseph's Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on March 25th.
