Softball Game Preview: South Caldwell Spartans vs. Oak Grove Grizzlies

The South Caldwell Spartans will square off against the Oak Grove Grizzlies at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. South Caldwell is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

On Wednesday, South Caldwell got the win against Bandys by a conclusive 11-1. Considering the Spartans have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Oak Grove had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over North Stanly on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Grizzlies have posted since May 9, 2024.

Mary Peyton Hodge spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Oak Grove saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabelle Lawrence, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

South Caldwell's win was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.3 runs. As for Oak Grove, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-4.
