Recap: Dixie Hornets vs. Calhoun Falls Charter Blue Flashes
After flying high against the Abbeville Panthers back in December of 2023, the Dixie Hornets came back down to earth. Dixie opened the new year with a less-than-successful 49-36 defeat to Calhoun Falls Charter. Dixie has struggled against Calhoun Falls Charter recently, as their game on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Dixie lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaylia Turner. Despite the final result, she scored 20 points along with six steals and five rebounds. That was a full 55.6% of Dixie's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Georgia Wojtkowski was another key contributor, scoring four points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
It was another big night for Autumn Thomas, who scored 23 points along with five steals for Calhoun Falls Charter. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Thomas has scored at least a third of Calhoun Falls Charter's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Sanders, who scored four points along with eight rebounds and six blocks.
Dixie's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Calhoun Falls Charter, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.
Dixie will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Whitmire at 6:00 p.m. Whitmire is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Calhoun Falls Charter, they will head out on the road to face off against Thornwell at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
