Recap: Mulberry Panthers vs. Avon Park Red Devils
Even though the Mulberry Panthers have not done well against the Avon Park Red Devils recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Mulberry pulled ahead with a 60-59 photo finish over Avon Park. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Mulberry's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kai Hodges, who scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Another player making a difference was Austin Weicht, who scored 8 points along with 10 rebounds.
Several Red Devils players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jermaine Myers, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Silva, who scored 9 points along with 5 rebounds.
Mulberry's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Avon Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mulberry will take on Hernando at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Hernando focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday. As for Avon Park, they will be playing at home against Lake Wales at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
