Basketball Recap: Proviso East Find Success

Proviso East took a 23-point defeat the last time they faced off against Berwyn/Cicero Morton, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Proviso East Pirates had just enough and edged the Berwyn/Cicero Morton Mustangs out 50-47. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won seven in a row.

Proviso East can attribute much of their success to Jerry Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. Johnson's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Anthony Anderson was another key player, putting up seven points.

Proviso East's victory bumped their record up to 17-8. As for Berwyn/Cicero Morton, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which is still a better percentage than their 5-21 record this season.

Coming up, Proviso East will square off against Downers Grove South at 6:30 p.m. on February 14th. As for Berwyn/Cicero Morton, they will challenge Steinmetz College Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
