Basketball Recap: Peabody-Burns Warriors vs. Central Christian Academy Lions
Peabody-Burns unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 58-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Central Christian Academy Lions on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Warriors of the 54-44 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Peabody-Burns saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jameson Miles dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Philpott, who earned nine points plus five rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Peabody-Burns smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Peabody-Burns will look to defend their home court on Friday against Wichita Defenders HomeSchool at 7:00 p.m. As for Central Christian Academy, they will be taking part in a tournament against Marion at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
