Preview: Valley Vikings vs. Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars
Valley is 2-8 against Atrisco Heritage Academy since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Valley Vikings will be playing at home against the Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. Valley will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
Even though Manzano scored an imposing 55 points on Wednesday, Valley still came out on top. Valley walked away with a 67-55 win over Manzano. Given Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while Manzano is ranked 71st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Julian Chavez, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Chavez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tyler Kozlowski, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
Atrisco Heritage Academy posted their biggest win since December 28, 2023 on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 81-61 margin over Albuquerque. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Valley's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, their win bumped their record up to 12-4.
Valley came up short against Atrisco Heritage Academy in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 59-49. Can Valley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
