League recap: Pierce breaks off league-leading run for West Milford

Wesley Pierce of West Milford ran for the longest rushing play in Big North - Independence this season against Weequahic last week. Pierce ran for 85 yards on the play and finished with 105 on the day as his team defeated the Indians.

Ramapo extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Northern Highlands, 42-7. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.

Conor Krup was the best wideout in the league this week as Ramapo defeated the Highlanders. Krup tallied three receptions for 112 yards. Neil O'Connor helped Ramapo's passing attack out by catching four balls for 62 yards.

Sean Fanning made the biggest impact on defense this week as West Milford bested Weequahic. The 6-foot-3 senior grabbed one interception.

Will Rodriguez was the most productive running back in Big North - Independence this week. He ran for 274 yards on 12 carries as Bergenfield topped Northern Highlands. Teammate Victor Trascu added to the ground attack by rushing for 118 yards.

Kyle Schneider put up the best numbers through the air as Pascack Valley topped DePaul. He finished with 14 completions for 261 yards and four touchdowns. Schneider's favorite target this week was Chris Garcia, who caught two passes for 86 yards.

The Indians' Schneider and Nick Soravilla have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Schneider has thrown for 812 yards this season, while Soravilla, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 12 catches for 253 yards. The Bears' Rodriguez leads the league in rushing yards with 683.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Passaic Valley takes on Pascack Valley. The Hornets are currently in third, while Craig Nielsen's team is in second.

Donald Dougherty's team moved up to 174 from 229 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Highlanders climbed the ranks as a result of a 16-15 win over Brian Johnson-Logan's team.
