Basketball Game Preview: Salida Spartans vs. Simla Cubs

Having just played yesterday, the Salida Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Simla Cubs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Salida knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Simla likes a good challenge.

On Tuesday, Salida strolled past Buena Vista with points to spare, taking the game 58-40. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Demons recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, Simla entered their tilt with Hoehne on Monday with 11 consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with 12. They breezed past the Farmers to the tune of 77-47. The Cubs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 21 points or more this season.

Simla's win came from a few key players Salida will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Treven Kocerha, who posted 19 points along with six boards and four steals. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Evan Guy, who put up 20 points and five rebounds.

Simla smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Salida's victory bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Simla, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-2.
