Baseball Recap: Minico Takes a Loss

Minico fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Burley on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bobcats by a score of 7-6. The Spartans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bobcats earlier this season, when they won 6-5.

Braxon Trenkle was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Minico saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dominic Garza, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Cody Carlson was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Minico's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Burley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Minico will take on Jerome at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.08 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Burley, they will face off against Wood River at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
