Baseball Recap: Piedmont Has No Trouble Against Central Academy

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Piedmont brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Central Academy Cougars on Tuesday. The Panthers have beaten the Cougars the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Cougars has come to flipping the script.

Drake Covington was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other pitching news, Peyton Archer tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Piedmont let Trent Polk and Andre Darby run wild. Polk scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Darby scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Darby a new career-high in RBI (two). Ethan Harvey was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-8. As for Central Academy, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-6.

Central Academy wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 10-0 loss against A.L. Brown on the 26th. Hopefully Piedmont payed attention to Central Academy's game: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on Central Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
