Football Preview: Reed Raiders vs. Reno Huskies
Reed has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will host the Reno Huskies at 7:00 p.m. Reed will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
Reed is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-7 victory over McQueen. Considering the Raiders have won three contests by more than 30 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Reed got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nishaan Bajwa out in front who threw for 100 yards and a touchdown, and also rushed for 39 yards. Mitchell Bertolino was in the mix as well, providing Reed with two touchdowns.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Reed was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 329 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Reed wouldn't let McQueen keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Reed can thank Caleb Pitcher and Oscar Casarez for forcing both of them.
Meanwhile, Reno faced Douglas in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Reno fell 20-13 to Douglas. That makes it the first time this season the Huskies have let down their home crowd.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Dawson Planeta, who picked up 127 receiving yards and two touchdowns. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 105 receiving yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylon Wilson, who threw for 198 yards and two touchdowns.
Reed's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-1. As for Reno, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Everything came up roses for Reed against Reno when the teams last played back in September of 2023, as the squad secured a 42-14 win. Will Reed repeat their success, or does Reno have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
