Basketball Recap: Hawken Comes Up Short

Hawken was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 18th straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Richmond Heights Spartans 69-38. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 738th, while the Spartans are ranked 189th).

Hawken lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Sasha Miller, who posted 13 points. Another player making a difference was Sarah Liu, who put up nine points.

Hawken's defeat dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Richmond Heights, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hawken will challenge Chagrin Falls at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Richmond Heights, they will head out on the road to take on St. Vincent-St. Mary at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. St. Vincent-St. Mary is on a four-game streak of home wins, Richmond Heights a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
