Baseball Recap: Monte Vista Extends Winning Streak to Three

Monte Vista lost to Las Animas back in May of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Pirates put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 7-1 victory. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

Kobe Jiron made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Jiron was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Jakoby Ross was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

The win was the third in a row for Monte Vista, bringing their record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Las Animas, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

Coming up, Monte Vista will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Alamosa at 4:00 p.m. The Mean Moose have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.1 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Las Animas, they have already played their next game, a 10-0 win against Calhan on the 2nd.
