Softball Game Preview: South-Doyle Cherokees vs. Loudon Redskins

The South-Doyle Cherokees will face off against the Loudon Redskins at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South-Doyle will be strutting in after a victory while Loudon will be coming in after a loss.

South-Doyle is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Northview Academy with a sharp 12-1 win on Monday. The Cherokees haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Haylee Richards was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Natalie Smithers, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Rheagen Thomas was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Loudon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Midway. While the Redskins didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Green Wave 4-0 in the first period.

South-Doyle now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Loudon, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

South-Doyle couldn't quite finish off Loudon in their previous meeting back in March and fell 4-2. Can the Cherokees avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
