Softball Preview: Castor Tigers vs. Quitman Wolverines

The Castor Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Quitman Wolverines at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.

It was a proper cat-fight when Castor faced off against Doyline on Monday. Everything went Castor's way against Doyline as Castor made off with a 16-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won five matchups by 13 runs or more so far this season.

Erin Keel made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Kaylie Shirley was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Jenna Braggs was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

Castor always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Doyline only posted an OBP of .083.

Meanwhile, Quitman never let their opponents score on Saturday. They put the hurt on Ruston with a sharp 11-0 victory. Considering the Wolverines have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Quitman's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Castor, their record now sits at 7-3.

Castor might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Quitman in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Castor avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
