Preview: Weldon Chargers vs. Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars

Weldon is 10-0 against Rocky Mount Prep since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Weldon Chargers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

After a string of three wins, Weldon's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were dealt a 57-29 loss at the hands of Northampton County. Weldon has not had much luck with Northampton County recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Weldon's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kamya Coles, who scored 15 points along with two steals, and Shaelyn Johnson who scored seven points. Coles is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played.

Meanwhile, Rocky Mount Prep's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their seventh straight defeat. They had to suffer through a rough 53-9 loss at the hands of Northwest Halifax. While losing is never fun, Rocky Mount Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 605th, while Northwest Halifax is ranked 286th).

Weldon's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Rocky Mount Prep, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.

Weldon strolled past Rocky Mount Prep in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a score of 50-33. Does Weldon have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rocky Mount Prep turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
