Baseball Game Preview: Berea Pirates vs. Burgin Bulldogs

The Berea Pirates will challenge the Burgin Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Berea is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, Berea beat Menifee County 6-2. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Blake King made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 13 over 6.1 innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Berea: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Nathan Prophitt was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. Berea is 3-1 when Prophitt posts three or more RBI, but 3-4 otherwise. Jackson Schill also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Meanwhile, Burgin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They lost 12-6 to Fort Knox.

Burgin's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Berea, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
