Recap: Mount Airy Granite Bears vs. Elkin Buckin' Elks
The Mount Airy Granite Bears put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their undefeated season alive. They breezed by Elkin at home to the tune of 63-0. Fans of Mount Airy have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Tyler Mason continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 200 yards and five touchdowns on only five carries. Mason's longest rush was for an incredible 79 yards. Another player making a difference was Taeshon Martin, who rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Mount Airy's victory was their 13th straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0. As for Elkin, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mount Airy will take on Alleghany at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. Alleghany will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 297th, while Mount Airy is ranked 48th). As for Elkin, they will head out on the road to face off against Starmount at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. Starmount knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Elkin likes a good challenge.
