Baseball Game Preview: Hillsboro Hawks vs. De Smet Jesuit Spartans

The Hillsboro Hawks will head out on the road to square off against the De Smet Jesuit Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. De Smet Jesuit took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Hillsboro, who comes in off a win.

Hillsboro took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Seckman by a score of 10-6. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hawks considering their two-run performance the game before.

Hunter Hoban looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Max Partney, who scored three runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Gunner Sutton was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Hillsboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, De Smet Jesuit fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against O'Fallon on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 2-1. The Spartans' loss continues a trend for the team, making it five in a row.

Hillsboro now has a winning record of 4-3. As for De Smet Jesuit, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
