Softball Recap: Poquoson Picks Up Ninth Straight Win at Home

While Poquoson's victory against Warhill wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Islanders won by a run and slipped past the Lions 10-9. The win continues a trend for the Islanders in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won five in a row.

Alyssa Laney was a standout: she scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Tinley Goodson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Poquoson's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Warhill, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 6-1.

Poquoson and Warhill will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Islanders see the field they'll take on Lafayette at 4:30 p.m. on the 16th. As for Warhill, their break will end when they face Rappahannock at 4:30 p.m. on the 14th.
