Basketball Recap: Oviedo Comes Up Short

Oviedo played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Ocoee Knights, falling 53-6. The Lions were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-6.

Ocoee's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dakara Merthie led the charge by putting up 11 points and five steals. Merthie is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played. Jayla Weiser was another key player, posting six points along with five assists and three steals.

Oviedo dropped their record down to 3-13 with the defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Ocoee, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-3.

Oviedo didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-30 win against Freedom on the 21st. Ocoee has also already played their next contest, a 54-47 victory against Horizon on the 23rd.
