Basketball Recap: Lake Worth Christian Comes Up Short

Lake Worth Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 69-53 to the St. John Paul II Academy Eagles. The Defenders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2014.

Loss or not, Lake Worth Christian got some senior leadership from Landen Harwood and Chase Troncale. Harwood went 9 for 19 on his way to 24 points along with five assists and three steals, while Troncale went 10 of 17 en route to 25 points and seven rebounds. That was a full 45.3% of Lake Worth Christian's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points.

St. John Paul II Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dior Johnson, who went 8 of 16 on his way to 18 points and three steals. Johnson has been hot, having posted 18 or more points the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Mesa, who went 5 for 9 en route to 11 points in addition to seven boards and six assists.

Lake Worth Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for St. John Paul II Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake Worth Christian will head out to face off against King's Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. King's Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.8 points per game this season. St. John Paul II Academy has already played their next contest (against Grandview Prep), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
