Basketball Recap: Gainesville Red Elephants vs. Roswell Hornets

Gainesville lost against Roswell back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The contest between the Gainesville Red Elephants and the Roswell Hornets didn't end well, with the Gainesville Red Elephants falling 41-22. The matchup marked the Red Elephants' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Gainesville saw an underclassman step up: freshman Damaria Colburn posted ten points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Roswell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alex Gonda, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards. The dominant performance also gave Gonda a new career-high in assists (six). Taylor Carlson was another key player, putting up seven points along with seven rebounds and four blocks.

This is the second loss in a row for Gainesville and nudges their season record down to 12-9. As for Roswell, the win got them back to even at 11-11.

Gainesville will take on Milton at 6:00 p.m. on February 4th. Milton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten contests -- so hopefully Gainesville likes a good challenge. Roswell has already played their next game, a 50-29 victory against Chattahoochee on the 31st.
