Football Game Preview: Trinity Prep Saints vs. Geneva Knights

The Trinity Prep Saints will face off against the Geneva Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither Trinity Prep nor Geneva posted many points in their last games, so it might be the defenses that decide this one.

Trinity Prep is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Cornerstone Charter Academy on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Saints lost 37-12 to the Ducks. The loss continues a trend for the Saints in their meetings with the Ducks: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the defeat, Trinity Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Josh Shaw rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries, and also picked up 46 receiving yards. The Saints are 3-1 when Shaw posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 0-3 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Geneva and Windermere Prep were almost perfectly matched up on Thursday, but Geneva suffered a 7-6 loss. The game marked the Knights' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Trinity Prep will have to contain Luke Gilmartin as he made an impact in Geneva's last game. He rushed for 91 yards and one TD.

Even if they lost, Geneva's defense still kept up the pressure with five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Braddock Carpenter and Duke Carpenter, who racked up four sacks between them. Duke is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season.

Trinity Prep now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Geneva, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.
