Baseball Game Preview: East Rockingham Eagles vs. Rockbridge County Wildcats

The East Rockingham Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Rockbridge County Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. East Rockingham is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither East Rockingham nor Spotswood made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Eagles took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trailblazers. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.

East Rockingham saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Will Eppard, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Rockbridge County made sure to put some runs up on the board against Harrisonburg on Friday. The Wildcats' pitchers stepped up to hand the Blue Streaks a 12-0 shutout. Considering the Wildcats have won six matchups by more than 11 runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Rockbridge County pushed their record up to 7-9 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for East Rockingham, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-3 record.

East Rockingham couldn't quite get it done against Rockbridge County in their previous matchup back in April as they fell 6-3. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
