Basketball Recap: Cypress Christian Comes Up Short

Cypress Christian extended their losing streak to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 3-10. They were dealt a 78-47 defeat at the hands of the St. John XXIII Lions. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1190th, while the Lions are ranked 221st).

When it comes to explaining why Cypress Christian lost, don't look at Roman Escobar. Despite the final result, he went 5-for-8 to rack up 14 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Escobar is becoming a predictor of the Warriors' success: when he posts at least three steals the team is 2-1 (and 1-9 when he doesn't). Darrin Enobakhare also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

As for St. John XXIII, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2. They have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Xavier Katamba produced another solid performance putting up 19 points. Another player making a difference was Dash Sodolak, who posted nine points.

Cypress Christian has already played their next contest, a 53-49 win against Rudder on the 5th. As for St. John XXIII, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 80-61 loss against Kinkaid on the 5th.
