Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Win Is South El Monte's Third in Last Four Outings

South El Monte won the last time they faced El Monte, and Eli Lopez did his part to make sure it happened again. The South El Monte Eagles were the clear victor by a 51-31 margin over the El Monte Lions on Wednesday thanks in part to Lopez, who went 6 of 10 en route to 15 points and five steals. Those five steals gave him a new career-high.

The team also got some help courtesy of Trinidad Marquez, who posted six points and six steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played.

South El Monte has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-14 record this season. As for El Monte, they are on a 17-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-17.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South El Monte will challenge Gabrielino at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for El Monte, they will head out on the road to square off against Arroyo at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
