Recap: St. John's Christian Academy Cavaliers vs. Dorchester Academy Raiders
After flying high against the Cross Episcopal Stingrays last Friday, The St. John's Christian Academy Cavaliers came back down to earth. St. John's Christian Academy fell 22-12 to Dorchester Academy on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 48 points in the game before, St. John's Christian Academy couldn't push the score so high this time.
Dorchester Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but John Whetsell led the charge by rushing for 91 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Wayland Gruber, who rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries.
St. John's Christian Academy's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-5. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Dorchester Academy, Lee Academy, and Thomas Heyward Academy. As for Dorchester Academy, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
St. John's Christian Academy will head out on the road to face off against Clarendon Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
