Baseball Game Preview: Stringer Red Devils vs. Puckett Wolves

The Stringer Red Devils will venture away from home to challenge the Puckett Wolves at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Stringer's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Lumberton 2-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Red Devils.

Meanwhile, Puckett made easy work of Newton on Friday and carried off a 17-0 victory. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.

Knox McWilliams made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wilkes Carter, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. Tristan Earls also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Puckett was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .562. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in six consecutive matchups.

Stringer's record is now 2-8. As for Puckett, their record now sits at 9-2.

Stringer came up short against Puckett in their previous matchup last Tuesday, falling 7-4. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
