Softball Game Preview: Hudson Explorers vs. Streetsboro Rockets

The Hudson Explorers are taking a road trip to take on the Streetsboro Rockets at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hudson has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Streetsboro will arrive with three straight victories.

Hudson managed to slip by Brecksville-Broadview Heights the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Explorers lost 13-6 to the Bees on Friday.

Gianna Pirtle made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Meanwhile, Streetsboro hadn't done well against Coventry recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Rockets put the hurt on the Comets with a sharp 13-5 win. While the Rockets didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Amy Rein was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Streetsboro got a massive performance out of Olivia DeToro, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. DeToro is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Hailey Miller was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Streetsboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matches.

Streetsboro's record is now 5-2. As for Hudson, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
