Soccer Game Preview: Mount Vernon vs. Pleasant Grove

The Mount Vernon Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Pleasant Grove Hawks at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

It was a proper cat-fight when Mount Vernon challenged Paris on Saturday. Mount Vernon took a 4-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Paris. The game was a 1-1 toss-up at halftime, but the Tigers couldn't quite close it out.

Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove lost 9-1 to Sulphur Springs on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 702nd, while the Wildcats are ranked 158th).

Mount Vernon has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 14 goals over those four contests. This is the second loss in a row for Pleasant Grove and nudges their season record down to 5-12.

Mount Vernon beat Pleasant Grove by a goal in their previous matchup back in February, winning 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mount Vernon since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
