Baseball Recap: Palm Bay Sets Scoring Season-High Against Cocoa

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Palm Bay). Everything went their way against the Cocoa Tigers on Wednesday as they made off with a 21-5 win. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Pirates with their most commanding win of the season.

Palm Bay got a massive performance out of Jacob Hines, who scored four runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Hines is becoming a predictor of the Pirates' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-1 (and 5-9 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jose Rivera, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.

Palm Bay always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .698. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Palm Bay's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-10. As for Cocoa, their loss was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-18.

Looking ahead, Palm Bay will head out to take on Space Coast at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates are facing the Vipers at the right time seeing as the Vipers are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Cocoa, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Evans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
