Softball Game Preview: Peninsula Panthers vs. King/Drew Golden Eagles

The Peninsula Panthers will take on the King/Drew Golden Eagles in a tournament on Wednesday. Neither Peninsula nor King/Drew posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

It was a proper cat-fight when Peninsula duked it out with Brea Olinda on Saturday. Peninsula took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Brea Olinda.

Frances Toman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple and one double. Eren Bossard also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, King/Drew was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Poly. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Golden Eagles have suffered since May 13, 2024.

Jordan Garcia put in work no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Garcia wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Michelle Shaw, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

King/Drew's loss dropped their record down to 3-9-1. As for Peninsula, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.
