Baseball Recap: Buckhorn Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Buckhorn faced off against Morgan County on Monday. The Wildcats came up short against the Cougars, falling 16-1. The Wildcats haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Buckhorn saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jody Stamper, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases. Stamper is becoming a predictor of the Wildcats' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 8-14 when he doesn't). Laken Napier was another, earning one run and two stolen bases.

Buckhorn's loss dropped their record down to 10-15. As for Morgan County, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Buckhorn will head out to take on Jackson City at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Morgan County, they will venture away from home to challenge East Carter at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
