Soccer Game Preview: Jefferson County vs. Sevier County

The Jefferson County Patriots will head out to take on the Sevier County Smoky Bears on Thursday. The two teams each escaped with close wins against their previous opponents.

Jefferson County was handed a three-goal defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They never let Dobyns-Bennett get on the board and left with a 1-0 win. The victory was all the more spectacular given Jefferson County's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee soccer rankings (they are ranked 101st, while Dobyns-Bennett are ranked 35th).

Meanwhile, Sevier County entered their tilt with Science Hill on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single goal of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Hilltoppers. Four seems to be a good number for Sevier County as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of goals in their previous game.

Sevier County pushed their record up to 13-2-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 29 goals over those six matches. As for Jefferson County, they now have a winning record of 9-8-2.

Jefferson County suffered a grim 4-1 defeat to Sevier County when the teams last played on Thursday. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
