Softball Game Preview: Florence Falcons vs. West Limestone Wildcats

The Florence Falcons will square off against the West Limestone Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Florence is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Bob Jones with a sharp 19-5 victory on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Falcons have won by exactly 14 runs.

Mk Hawkins was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

Florence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, West Limestone made easy work of Elkmont on Tuesday and carried off a 9-2 win. Considering the Wildcats have won 20 contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

JuliAnn Kyle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 19 Ks.

At the plate, Aubrey Bethune and Lilly Bethune did most of the damage at the plate: Aubrey scored a run while going 3-for-3, while Lilly went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Haley Waggoner, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Florence and bumps their season record up to 12-18. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for West Limestone, their record now sits at 32-5.

Florence couldn't quite get it done against West Limestone in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 as they fell 8-5. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
