Baseball Game Preview: Escondido Charter Tigers vs. Coastal Academy Stingrays

The Escondido Charter Tigers will face off against the Coastal Academy Stingrays at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Escondido Charter barely beat Tri-City Christian the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Escondido Charter put the hurt on Tri-City Christian with a sharp 35-2 win on Wednesday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Liam McGinty made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring five runs while going 5-for-6. Those five hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Escondido Charter got a massive performance out of Matthew Hydar, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five runs, and five RBI. That home run was Hydar's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Seavello, who got on base in five of his eight plate appearances with six runs, six RBI, and one triple.

Escondido Charter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 33 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Coastal Academy never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Pacific Ridge last Monday. They blew past the Firebirds 22-4. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Stingrays as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Escondido Charter's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Coastal Academy, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.

Escondido Charter skirted past Coastal Academy 6-5 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will Escondido Charter repeat their success, or does Coastal Academy has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
