Recap: Cardinal O'Hara Hawks vs. Nichols Vikings
The Cardinal O'Hara Hawks entered their tilt with the Nichols Vikings with 16 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 17. Cardinal O'Hara claimed a resounding 62-33 win over Nichols at home. Cardinal O'Hara has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Cardinal O'Hara's win on Thursday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jordyn Williams, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. Kyla Hayes was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.
Nichols' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Madisen Wilson, who scored 11 points, and Brianna Barr-buday who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Barr-buday hasn't dropped below ten rebounds for seven straight games.
Cardinal O'Hara's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.7 points per game. As for Nichols, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cardinal O'Hara will take on Sacred Heart Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Cardinal O'Hara is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in New York (they are ranked second, while Sacred Heart Academy is ranked 130th). As for Nichols, they will be playing at home against Mount St. Mary Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Nichols focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Thursday.
