Volleyball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Marauders vs. Yorktown Tigers

Mt. Vernon hasn't had much luck against Yorktown recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Marauders will challenge the Tigers at 10:00 a.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Mt. Vernon sitting on three straight wins and Yorktown on seven.

Mt. Vernon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Pendleton Heights 3-0.

Mt. Vernon got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Amelia Anderson out in front who had 16 assists and eight digs. Another player making a difference was Aubry Dowling, who had ten digs and two aces.

If Muncie Burris wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Yorktown, they should've done a better job of containing Lyndsey Robinson. The Tigers came out on top against the Owls by a score of 3-1 on Saturday thanks in part to Robinson, who had 12 digs and two assists. Dowling is also on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last 14 games she's played.

The final score came out to 25-15, 25-27, 25-11, 25-17.

Mt. Vernon's record now sits at 20-9. As for Yorktown, their record is now 22-7.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's match: Mt. Vernon has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.8 aces per game. However, it's not like Yorktown struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.3 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Mt. Vernon suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Yorktown when the teams last played back in September. Can the Marauders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
