Softball Recap: Walt Whitman Triumphs

While Walt Whitman's win against Longwood wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Lions on Tuesday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 15, 2018, but that streak is no more.

Brynn Iacovone spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 17 Ks. Those 17 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Andie DeVinney, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy O'Loughlin, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

Walt Whitman's win bumped their record up to 14-6. As for Longwood, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-6.

Walt Whitman does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Longwood, they are taking a road trip to take on Brentwood at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
