Basketball Recap: Springfield Takes a Loss

Springfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 19th straight loss dating back to last season. They took a hard 51-36 fall against the Bowling Green Bobcats. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 40-36 back in December of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Springfield saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Monica Barrena went 6 of 14 en route to 16 points along with eight boards and three steals. Those 16 points gave Barrena a new career-high. Jahonnah Felder also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Springfield's loss dropped their record down to 0-18. As for Bowling Green, they moved to 5-13 with that win, which also ended their six-game losing streak.

Springfield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-40 defeat against Southview on the 1st. As for Bowling Green, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 53-27 loss against Whitmer on the 3rd.
