Baseball Recap: Independence Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Independence came tearing into Thursday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Horn Lake Eagles get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Wildcats also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.

The result came thanks to Rick Golden's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Austin Eddie was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eli Stepp, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Independence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They are a perfect 13-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Independence's record is now 18-9. As for Horn Lake, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-18.

Looking ahead, Independence will challenge Greater Praise Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Greater Praise Christian Academy has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.25 runs per game on average), something Independence will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Horn Lake, they will face off against Hernando at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
