Football Recap: Trenton Smith's Menacing Defense Leads Greenfield-Central over Mt. Vernon

Greenfield-Central won the last time they faced Mt. Vernon, and Trenton Smith did his part to make sure it happened again. The Cougars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 24-21 victory over the Marauders on Friday thanks in part to Smith, who rushed for 100 yards and two TDs on only ten carries. He didn't just play on offense: he also picked up two sacks and made eight total tackles.

One reason for the win was Greenfield-Central's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was Smith with two.

Although Mt. Vernon took the loss, they still got scores from Mason Meyer and Evan Privett.

The win made it two in a row for Greenfield-Central and bumps their season record up to 2-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 29.0 points over those games. As for Mt. Vernon, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.
