Baseball Recap: Regis Beats East Linn Christian Academy for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Regis came tearing into Friday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the East Linn Christian Academy Eagles a 17-0 shutout. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Jake Bohnke made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Rook Smith and Griffin Kolb did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Kolb went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave Kolb a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Lulay, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Regis kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Regis pushed their record up to 14-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for East Linn Christian Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Regis is set to face off against their familiar foe Monroe at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rams 3.5, the Dragons 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, East Linn Christian Academy will square off against rival Crosshill Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
