Recap: Hi-Plains Patriots vs. Kit Carson Wildcats

The Hi-Plains Patriots can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They walked away with a 47-40 victory over Kit Carson. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Hi-Plains also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.

Hi-Plains' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aiden Cordell led the charge by scoring 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Cordell is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hugo Vara, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.

Kit Carson lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Josiah Irwin, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds. Brennan Framel was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with nine rebounds.

Hi-Plains' victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-7. As for Kit Carson, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-6.

Hi-Plains and Stratton will face off at 4:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Stratton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Friday. As for Kit Carson, they will head out on the road to take on Granada at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Granada is ranked 272nd, while Kit Carson is ranked 294th).
