Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Corner Canyon walked away with it. They really took it to the Mountain Ridge Sentinels for the full four quarters, racking up a 59-20 win. Considering the Chargers have won ten matchups by more than 24 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Corner Canyon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Helaman Casuga, who threw for 360 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80.6% of his passes, and also rushed for 41 yards and one score. Those 360 passing yards gave Casuga a new career-high. Another back making a difference was Weston Briggs, who gained 171 total yards and three touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Corner Canyon was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 204 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 180 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.
Corner Canyon didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jaoquin Rodriguez.
Despite the loss, Mountain Ridge still got an impressive performance from Grayden Dumas, who picked up 104 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Jaxon Hunt was another key player, having thrown for 305 yards and two touchdowns.
Corner Canyon's win bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Mountain Ridge, with the defeat, they broke their nine-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-3.
Corner Canyon wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 35-20 victory against Lone Peak on the 20th. Mountain Ridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
